Duale’s brother claims he was arrested and tortured by KDF

An elder brother of the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale on Monday told of how KDF soldiers arrested and beat him up on Sunday night in a forest.

Mr Hassan Bare, a businessman in Garissa County, claimed that soldiers in two Toyota Land Cruisers pounced on him at the main gate of the Nomad Hotel, which is owned by his family.

Military spokesperson Col David Obonyo has made no comment on Mr Bare’s claims.

Mr Bare said he had arrived from Nairobi and was waiting at the gate when the soldiers struck and bundled him into one of their jeeps and drove him to the forest.

Mr Bare said the officers pulled him out of his car at the gate and forced him to lie on his belly on Kismayo Road in front of the hotel before he was blindfolded and beaten with truncheons.

He showed reporters injuries on his thighs and back.  He said he had reported the matter to the police.

Mr Bare said after the soldiers later helped him into one of their vehicles before driving him into a forest outside the town.

He said he was tortured for about five hours before a senior officer called the soldiers and the beating stopped.
