Duale dismisses church leaders as ‘prophets of doom’

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale  on Sunday called church leaders “prophets of doom” for their call for the disbanding of the electoral body ahead of next year’s General Election.

Speaking when he presented sewing machines to Simaho, a local NGO that helps girls in Garissa Township Constituency, for which he is the Member of Parliament, Mr Duale said the Constitution was clear on how the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) may be reconstituted.

He told the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) to keep off the IEBC and concentrate on religious issues.

“You cannot tell us that there will be violence during the General Election,” he said. “You are a prophet of doom if you are predicting violence among peace-loving Kenyans.”

The NCCK had insisted that, as it stands, the electoral body was incapable of delivering a free and fair election.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that he and his Cord co-principals will march to the IEBC offices to demand for justice.

He accused the IEBC of serving powerful interests in the government.
