Drunk man assaults, rapes two women


Police in Kirinyaga are hunting for a 20 year-old man who assaulted and raped two women aged 45 and 75 separately on Sunday evening.

Both victims are from Karinga village and were assaulted and raped in their respective homes.

One victim, a 45 year-old primary school head teacher, succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital.

The second victim, who sustained deep cut on the head, is admitted at a local hospital.

The incident was reported by Rungeto sub-location assistant chief Mwangi Mangondu at 6pm.

According to the report filed at the police station, “the suspect, John Wambugu Maina, 20, who was drunk, confronted a head teacher as she was preparing to go to the bathroom and hit her with a piece of timber several times and later raped her.”

Wambugu then left the home of his first victim and went to an elderly woman’s home where he assaulted and raped her as well.

In another village within Kirinyaga County, a 44 year-old man committed suicide inside his house in Kiragu within Kibingoti sub-location.

Vincent Muthike Kinyanjui’s body was discovered on Sunday at 4pm by his younger brother Michael Mugweru Kinyanjui.

“Police visited the scene at Kiragu village, in Kibingoti sub-location within Kiine location and found the body of the deceased hanging on the tress of the roof suspended by a rope tied with a noose on the neck and with no visible injuries,” read the police report.
