Dream come true for West Ham-bound Kenyan youngsters
A young Kenyan footballer on Sunday broke down after receiving a short term sponsorship to travel to England and train with a top flight club.
Moses Kinyanjui, who hails from Shanzu in Mombasa County, was one of the two players selected from an original pool of 1,600 players commissioned by the Betway sponsored talent search initiative.
Kinyanjui, who turns out for Sparki Youngsters and Bandari FC U-20 team, will alongside former Githurai Kimbo and Kibera Black Stars custodian Moses Nthiwa travel to London and spend some weeks training with EPL club West Ham United.
“I am heading there to work very hard and possibly turn professional. I don’t want to return home,” the 20-year-old told Nairobi News.
VERY GOOD PLAYERS
Nthiwa likewise hopes to excel during his trip to London.
“I will go there and do my very best, and then hope that someone will be watching me and get impressed,” the student at Kenya Institute of Management said.
Dutch trained Mathare United coach Francis Kimanzi, who has been involved in the six-week talent search, urged the Kenyan Premier League and National Super League clubs to offer opportunities for the 16 players that made it to the “dream team”.
“I can tell you we have some very good players in this group. They deserve a chance to play at the top level,” Kimanzi, who has also managed the national football team, said.
