DPP gets more time in case of Briton accused of killing Kenyan girlfriend

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko was on Thursday given more time to review a case in which a British national is charged with being in possession of firearm without certificate.

Mr Richard Alden, 53 who is also facing another case of murdering his girlfriend at his Karen house in Nairobi county, has denied the charges of illegal possession of firearm.

When the matter came up before chief magistrate Francis Andayi for directions state prosecutor, Duncan Ondimu, who is teaming up with, Celestine Oluoch, informed the court that file has been forwarded to the office of DPP for perusal and further instructions.

The High Court was told that the family of the deceased have petitioned the DPP to allow an out of court settlement in the case that is due for hearing on March 1.

DENIED CHARGES

Mr Alden has denied other charges of being in possession of ammunition without firearm certificate, making a document without authority and forging a firearm certificate purporting to be genuine and valid document issued by Central Firearms Bureau.

He is out of cash bail of Sh 1 million.  The accused was granted bail after a team of his lawyers led by Tom Okundi successfully applied that he be admitted to bail since he was not a flight risk.

The court was told the suspect is a prominent businessman.

For the murder case, Lady Justice Jessie Lesiit granted the accused a bond of Sh 2 million with two Kenyan sureties. The hearing is pending at the High Court.
