DP Ruto heckled by crowd at a rally in Narok

Deputy President William Ruto was heckled by a crowd he was addressing in Narok on Thursday to mobilise residents to register as voters.

The DP was shouted down by a section of the crowd at a rally in Sogoo Secondary School after he told them to acquire national IDs and register as voters.

The angry residents claimed they were being asked to pay to get the national IDs and further criticized the government’s development record in the area.

Accompanied by Energy Cabinet Secretary, Charles Keter, the DP had earlier launched the last mile connectivity programme at two homes at Sogoo trading centre.

NATIONAL IDs

The crowd refused to hear from a section of their local leaders who are accompanying the DP, among them the Narok Women Representative Ms Soipan Ole Kudate and Sogoo area MCA Moses Cheruyoit.

The DP, having managed to calm down the crowd, was forced to take over as the master of ceremony and invited a few leaders to speak, including Governor Samuel ole Tunai who was spared the heckling.

The residents appointed a Mr Julius Kibienei as their spokesperson for the occasion.

Among other things, the residents demanded that local administration officers be transferred, claiming they were asking for Sh300 from locals to issue them with national IDs.

INVESTIGATIONS

The DP directed investigations and action on the allegations. He asked the county commissioner Moffat Kangi to carry investigations into the allegation and arrest any culprits.

He has also pledged that the Mulo-Sogoo, Lulunga-Sogoo-Olmekenyu roads will be tarmacked within the the next one year.

Also accompanying Mr Ruto was Kilgoris MP Mr Gideon Konchella, Narok East MP Mr Lemanken Aramat and the county women representative.

The DP is scheduled to address three more rallies at Loita, Lolgorian and Ongata Barikoi.
