Double victory for Kenyans at Paris Marathon

Kenyan athletes won both the men’s and women’s titles at the 40th edition of the Paris marathon held in the French capital on Sunday.

Cyprian Kotut claimed the men’s title after finishing the 42km race in a time of 2:07:10 ahead of compatriots Laban Korir and Stelhen Chemiany who came in second and third to complete a clean sweep for Kenya.

“The target was to remain within the front runners with 10km to go. There and then, I knew I stood a chance of winning the race,” Kotut, who also won a half marathon in the same city barely a month ago, said.

The women’s race was won by Visiline Jepkesho who breasted the tape in a time of 2:25:52. Ethiopian pair of Gulume Chala and Dinknesh Tefera came second and third.

Kenyan’s triumph coincided with the visit of President Uhuru Kenyatta and first lady Margaret Kenyatta to the country.
