A 52-year-old man from Kigumo Sub-County in Murang’a is admitted to Maragua Hospital after severing his penis.

Family members said Mr Wilfred Kamande, who hails from Kaharero Village, chopped off his organ on Tuesday morning just minutes after his children left for school.

Mr James Kimani said he rushed to his brother’s house after hearing him scream about 7.30am.

Mr Kimani said he entered the house and found his brother on the bed screaming that he had injured himself.

He said he called his sons and they looked for a vehicle to take his brother to Maragua Hospital.

Mr Kimani said they only found out the extent of Mr Kamande’s injury when they arrived at the hospital.

“He told us he had done it because some people did not wish him well,” Mr Kimani said.

WIFE DIED

He added that his brother — a father of five — changed when his sick wife died in January.

“His daughter who had a child recently died too, leaving him with six mouths to feed. Some of Kamande’s children who completed school are jobless. May be that is why he did it,” he said.

“The grandchild used to benefit from the free cash transfer plan but was mysteriously removed from the list of beneficiaries.”

Medical Superintendent Stephen Ngige said Mr Kamande was bleeding profusely when he arrived at the hospital.

“We took him to the theatre immediately to reattach the stump. We also did blood transfusion,” Dr Ngige said.

“He is out of danger but will be monitored until he recovers.”

Dr Ngige said there were chances that Mr Kamande would function normally, adding that doctors would counsel him to identify the reason for his action.
