Did MTV rig out Alikiba to award Wizkid ‘Best African Act’? -VIDEO
Bongo Flava musician Alikiba has alleged foul-play after Nigerian artiste Wizkid was crowned the Best African Act during the MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA) despite him winning the fans’ vote.
The two artistes were up against each other in the category and public votes cast on the awards’ website had indicated an outright win for Alikiba.
MTV EMA, however, crowned Nigeria’s Wizkid who also went home with the Best Worldwide Act Award.
Intriguingly, on their website, the organizers had indicated an Alikiba win and placed the winners pink virtual trophy beside his name.
So, Alikiba’s fans questioned why the artiste was “rigged out” and MTV had this explanation.
The award ceremony was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, where Wizkid was handed his award.
On Tuesday, a shocked Alikiba told his fans that he had yet to get an explanation from MTVEMA on the mix-up.
“Kiukweli mpaka sasa hivi mimi mwenyewe sijui ni kwa sababu gani, Watanzania na mashabiki wote hawajui ni kwa sababu gani. Kama ulivyozungumzia na juhudi zilivyokuwa zikifanyika pale na watu walipiga kura kweli, kwa sababu watu wanavyokuwa wakipiga kura pale mabadiliko yanakuwa yanaonekana,” he told the Jahazi Show on Clouds FM.
He urged the organisers of the awards to provide a detailed explanation on the criteria used declare Wizkid the winner.
“Kwa hiyo mashabiki walikuwa wanataka kujua ni kitu gani kilikuwa kimetokea at least tuweze kupata hata voice ya explanation kiundani ili kila mtu afahamishwe ni kitu gani au ni vigezo gani wametumia kufanya mimi nisishinde ile tuzo. Hiko ndio kitu tunachosubiria na menejimenti yangu,” stated Alikiba.
Meanwhile Wizkid took to Instagram to celebrate the award and predictably attracted bitter comments from Tanzanians.
