Departed Cameroonian player, Ekeng, gets an emotional send off

Tears flowed freely on Friday at the Dinamo Stadium in Bucharest during the requiem mass for departed Cameroonian player Patrick Ekeng.

Family members, colleagues, friends, club officials and fans of the player who collapsed and died on the pitch last week during a Romanian league match, gave a befitting send off to the former Dinamo Bucharest player.

Ekeng, 26, a defensive midfielder died suddenly on the pitch after falling to the ground without any contact with another player just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute during a league game against Viitorul Constanta.

 NIGHTMARE

He was consequently rushed to a nearby hospital where staff were unable to resuscitate him.

“I cant believe it. It’s a nightmare. For me, for the team and for all Dinamo supporters. Its too much,” said club executive director and former player Lonel Danciulescu.

Ekeng’s death draws similarities with that of another with another Cameroonian international Marc Vivien Foe who died after collapsing during a Fifa Confederations Cup match against Colombia in France on June 28, 2003.
