Dennis Oliech on brink of return to football

Former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech could soon make a return as a professional footballer, Nairobi News understands.

Oliech is reported to have impressed during recent trials with top South African side Free State Stars.

The striker, who made his name while playing in France for almost a decade at Ajaccio, Auxerre and Nantes, has been training with the PSL side for the past nine days with aim of earning a deal.

Free State coach Luc Eymael confirmed the development.

“He’s not fit but still got something in terms of fitness, skill and decision making,” the Belgian trainer who previously coached AFC Leopards, explained.

“It’s now up to the management because I have given them my proposal.”

Should the transfer materialise, it will mark the first time in three years the player is returning to play competitively.

During this spell, he has been involved in various activities including working as brand Ambassador of betting firm Betway, from where he undertook a coaching course in South Africa.

He also turned down a coaching role at Football Kenya Federation and was also forced to fight off reports that he’s gone broke.

Should the 33-year old be offered a deal, he will start playing in August when the 2018/2019 league season.
