DCI officers on the run after being aided by colleagues to stage dramatic escape


The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the police have launched a manhunt for two police officers who were caught soliciting for bribes from a foreign national.

The two officers were reportedly rescued by their colleagues and have since gone missing.

EACC detectives said the two officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had demanded Sh1 million bribe from the said foreigner whom they did not identify.

LAID TRAP

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening through their Twitter account, EACC said its officers laid a trap on DCI officers Julius Oguma and Charles Macharia from Kabete Police Station in Kiambu County but the two managed to escape with the help of their colleagues.

According to the statement, the two suspects were rescued by their colleagues, shortly after the EACC had arrested them.

DRAMATIC INCIDENT

During the dramatic incident, it is has been reported that a group of DCI officers from Kabete Police Station stormed the scene and fired several rounds of ammunition, scaring the EACC officers and aiding the escape of the suspects.

“The two suspects are DCI officers were arrested by EACC officers and handcuffed but were rescued by their colleagues from Kabete Police Station who fired several rounds of ammunition as warning shots to facilitate the escape of their colleagues. Kabate DCIO is facilitating EACC officers to find the suspects,” said EACC in a tweet.

The two DCI officers are said to have also managed to escape with Sh100,000 trap money while handcuffed.
