Customer sues The Stanley over damage to car

A customer has sued Sarova Hotels for damaging his car.

Mr Oscar Amisi said he visited the Stanley Hotel on September 6, 2013 and gave a valet the keys to his Mercedes Benz.

He was later informed that they had misplaced the key and the hotel agreed to take the car to a garage of his choice for the processing of a replacement key at the hotel’s cost.

“I received the car on December 24, 2013 from the garage and upon examination and assessment, I found that it had several defects on its body, requiring it to be painted fully,” he said.

Mr Amisi said the hotel refused to compensate him for loss of use of the vehicle and the incidental damages. As a result of the declined compensation, he said he suffered losses.

He is seeking Sh20,000 per day as special damages for the 10 days he did not use the car and Sh50,000 as cost of painting the car.

Mr Broderick Mohamed, chief security officer Sarova Hotels   confirmed that Mr Amisi had visited the hotel on September 6, last year and gave out his car keys to the hotel’s car jockey who took his car to Standard Street parking area and got a car tag for the vehicle.

However, upon Mr Amisi calling for his vehicle, his car keys could not be traced and the duty manager Ms Lucy Njoki offered him a car that took him home leaving his car in the hotel’s custody.
