Court halts City Hall Annex evictions pending suit

The Nairobi County government has suffered a setback after it was stopped from evicting tenants from the City Hall Annex Building.

The county government had argued that it was seeking to create space to accommodate new offices created after the county government came into being.

The Nairobi County government had stated that, “the vacation of the relevant premises will not lead to leasing the same to new tenants but will go to the new legal department of the City county which has already occupied the vacant offices earlier released to the council.”

High Court Judge David Onyancha however ruled that the said evictions should be stopped pending the final determination of the suit which was filed by lawyer Rumba Kinuthia on behalf of 16 tenants set to be affected.

The lawyer had filed the application after Nairobi City County served them with an eviction notice.
