Court finds police impostor Waiganjo guilty

Joshua Waiganjo has been found guilty of impersonating a police officer and obtaining money by pretence.

However, Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma did not convict him after Waiganjo denied that he had been sentenced in two different cases.

Prosecutor Stancelous Mwangi said Waiganjo was sentenced to serve one year in jail by a Muran’ga court on August 29, 1998 when he was found guilty of impersonating a superintendent of police.

The prosecutor also added that on July 8, 2002, the accused was found guilty of impersonating a superintendent of police by a Molo court and was fined Sh2,000.

RECRUITED

Waiganjo was found guilty of five counts of falsely presenting himself as a senior superintendent of police attached to the General Service Unit headquarters, claiming he was capable of assisting several people to be recruited into the service.

He was charged with falsely obtaining Sh50,000 from Mr Daniel Kago on October 7, 2008 at Kiganjo village and also receiving Sh100,000 from Mr James Waichoya on October 8, 2008 at Naromoru and conning Ms Beatrice Wangui of Sh130,000 at Othaya on October 9, 2008.
