A couple, who died in the Salgaa road accident 10 days after their wedding, were buried on Wednesday in Nandi County.

Valentine Jepkoech and Jared Kipngetich were among the 12 people who died along the Nakuru-Eldoret road.

Their two-year old son was not in the matatu when the accident happened.

The couple got married on November 9 and on November 17 Valentine graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) only for her to perish with her husband two days later.

The two were buried on Wednesday at their home in Chepterit, Nandi County.

BLACK SPOT

Nandi county senator, Samson Cherargey said there is need for a dual carriage at Salgaa black spot.

“I want to tell NTSA that we need a dual carriage at Salgaa and all trucks be diverted like they did at Mai Mahiu as most accidents are caused by trucks,” he said.

He added that he will be demanding a proposal from the authority and table it in the senate for endorsement.

“They must give us proposals of what they have done outside fighting drunk drivers they must promote safety first and ensure we are safe,” said the senator.

He urged the government to compensate the families of the Salgaa victims quoting how the couple’s orphaned boy needed to be taken care of.
