Controversy clouds death of Chameleone’s brother AK47

When news of Emmanuel Mayanja’s death broke yesterday, there was a lot of speculation about the cause of death. Anyone with access to social media had their side of the story.
The most prominent was that Mayanja aka AK-47, had been beaten to death.
Police have however ruled out any beating as the cause of death.
Experts who carried out a postmortem examination on the body have also ruled out beating as a possible cause of death ahead of an official report expected to be released Wednesday.
“The officers doing the postmortem examination have already ruled out beating as a possible cause of Emmanuel’s death. But we are waiting for the official and full postmortem report that will come out tomorrow [Wednesday], to have the actual cause of this young man’s death,” Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told Daily Monitor on.
HEAD WOUND
Mr Enanga, however, said that the officers discovered a wound on the singer’s head.
“The wound could be self-inflicted or caused by an accident. But all that will be included in the final postmortem report,” Mr Enanga said.
Mr Enanga’s information, however, seemed to contradict what Kabalagala CID boss Nusulah Kemigisha told journalists earlier.
She said she suspected “foul play after realising the body had bruises on the chest”.
AK-47 was pronounced dead on arrival at Nsambya hospital on Monday night. He was allegedly found lying on the floor of Dejavu Pub washroom in Kansanga, a Kampala suburb, shortly after 9 p.m.
Fellow musician Diamond Oscar told Daily Monitor that they rushed the singer to Nsambya hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The law gives the police power to preserve a scene of crime such that it is not tampered with. So we closed the bar and it shall remain closed until we are thoroughly done with investigations,” Mr Enanga said.
NO ARRESTS
Mr Enanga also disregarded earlier reports that police had arrested some people in connection with AK-47’s death, saying; “That is not true. No one has been arrested.”
He also dismissed reports that Mr Jeff Kiwanuka, the owner of the bar and manager of Team No Sleep to which the deceased was a member, is wanted over the singer’s death.
“No one is wanted before the postmortem examination result comes out,” Mr Enanga said.
Mr Kiwanuka was not available for a comment as his known phone lines were switched off.
However, Mr Enanga said the manager of Dejavu, Mr Stephen Kisenyi, had been summoned to Kabalagala Police Sation to record a statement.
“The manager is simply helping the police establish easy communication with other employees, especially the cleaner of the toilets who is said to be permanently stationed at his work station,” Mr Enanga said.
The singer will be laid to rest in Kalangalo village, Nalugi parish, in Mityana District about 60 miles from Kampala.
