Coach steps aside as sex scandal hits Harambee Starlets camp
The reported sex scandal within the Kenya national women football team camp has claimed it’s first casualty.
Football Kenya Federation confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the team’s goalkeeping coach Lawrence Webo had been asked to “step aside” with immediate effect so as to allow for complete investigations into the matter.
“The move by FKF has been necessitated by the coach being adversely mentioned in connection with an alleged sexual scandal between him and a member of the playing unit.
“In light of the allegations, FKF has moved with speed to set up transparent internal mechanisms to not only investigate the claims, but also come up with recommendations to ensure that the same, whether real or imagined does not occur in the future,” FKF’s Barry Otieno’s statement read in part.
Coach Webo, a former Kenya international goalkeeper who turned out for AFC Leopards and Rangers FC in the Kenyan Premier League while in his prime, has however pleaded his innocence over the matter.

“I can’t do such. I am clean. The truth shall set me free,” Webo told Nairobi News.
Webo is now all but set to miss out on the team’s forthcoming trip to Europe.
The Starlets, who have qualified for the Women’s Cup of Nations set for Cameroon this November, are primed to train in Spain and Germany in the coming weeks, while featuring in a couple of high profile friendlies.
The disciplinary decision on coach Webo follows an outcry on social media in the past few weeks, amid allegations that a number of players have been dropped from the team in controversial circumstances.
