City woman sentenced to death for killing Dandora boyfriend
A woman who stabbed a man to death two years ago was on Tuesday sent to the gallows.
High Court Judge Jessi Lesiit found Teresiah Mueni Kilonzo guilty of killing Maxwell Nyambane Moranda on March 4, 2015 at Dandora Phase IV in Eastlands, Nairobi.
Though the accused had told the court that she accidentally stabbed Moranda while under the influence of alcohol, the judge ruled that the defence was not convincing.
“Having considered the evidence in regard to the alcohol intake and the accused’s state of mind, I find she was not under the influence so that she could not know what she was doing,” said Justice Lesiit.
She added: “I find that her senses were alert, her moves were swift, her actions were deliberate and well calculated.”
On the fateful day, Teresiah’s two friends identified as Faith and Akinyi visited her residence where she lived with her boyfriend.
ALL DRUNK
The three young women were all drunk. The court was told Moranda knocked on the door while calling out Teresiah’s name, who was in the house.
Before he could open the door, Teresiah pulled a knife from a basin, opened the door and stabbed Moranda in the chest.
The lifeless body was later found upstairs, at the laundry area of the flat, and taken to the City Mortuary.
While the court found Teresiah guilty, her cousin’s boyfriend Wycliff Okweba, who had been charged with her, was acquitted.
The judge noted that the accused voluntarily got herself drunk and that her choice of leaving the scene without caring about Moranda’s condition was clear that she intended to kill him.
