Embattled Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina has been charged with bribing Senator Mike Sonko to silence him from blowing the whistle on corruption in the city.

Mr Wainaina denied that on January 5 at KICC he offered Sh1 million to Mr Sonko as inducement not to pursue a matter where he had invited the media to accompany him in documenting how senior officers were constructing private and development houses using public funds.

Mr Wainaina was charged alongside his secretary Roselyn Oluoch who has since pleaded to the charges.

He was released on a bond of Sh 1 million with one surety or a cash bail of Sh 800,000 pending hearing on May 16.

Ms Oluoch is out on a bond of Sh 500,000. She is alleged to have been sent by Mr Wainaina to give the bribe and was allegedly found in possession of Sh 500,000 which was part of the bribe.
