City man caught on tape brawling with traffic officer charged – VIDEO

A 38 year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Joel Ndungu denied that on October 14, at Ole Dume road in Kilimani area, he assaulted Constable James Chege who was executing his lawful duties.

The court heard that during the incident, the accused damaged a police motorcycle.

He denied a charge of malicious damage to property.

Kibera principal magistrate Benard Ochoi released him on 50,000 bond with a surety of similar amount.

The case will be heard February 6 next year.

The incident was captured in a two minute video that surfaced online.

In the video, it is unclear who started the confrontation, but the male civilian can be heard asking the police officer why he had beaten him yet he found him at the parking lot.

The confrontation between the two then escalates as the civilian demands to know why the police officer had insulted him. The male civilian then pushes the police officer who fights back as his helmet falls down.
