City Hall’s revenue collection down by Sh900m

Nairobi county government’s revenue collection declined by Sh900 million in the first nine months of the last financial year, hampering effective budget implementation.

The total revenue collected in the first nine months of the 2016/17 fiscal year amounted to Sh8.72 billion compared to Sh9.62 billion generated in a similar period in 2015/16.

A report by Controller of Budget Agnes Odhiambo stated that City Hall spent Sh15.13 billion, released for operations, with Sh13.65 billion going to recurrent expenditure, while Sh1.48 billion was spent on development activities.

The county incurred the highest development expenditure of Sh115.6 million on routine maintenance of roads and drainages across the city, followed by Sh.107.88 million on purchase of 10 skip loaders, and Sh68.29 million on routine maintenance of street lights.

Ms Odhiambo said Sh78.41 million went to the 128 MCAs’ and Speaker’s sitting allowances against the annual allocation of Sh140.6 million.
