Nairobi County government has taken Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC) to court for threatening to disconnect electricity supply in various city facilities due to an outstanding Sh732 million debt.

City Hall claims that should the threat be effected key facilities within the countries capital will suffer irreparable losses.

According to the County Secretary Dr Robert Ayisi, the proposed disconnection is in bad faith and that KPLC is using a defunct local government law to seek the Sh732, 017, 002.20 payment.

The facilities to be affected by the disconnection include City Hall annex, Pumwani hospital, Mama Lucy hospital, Nairobi City County nurseries and primary schools, depots as well as street light pillars.
