City gangs fight over dumpsite ownership


Estate gangs in Eastlands were on Monday morning caught on camera fighting over ownership of a dumpsite.

The two teams were involved in a physical confrontation over who between the two camps should receive proceeds from a vehicle that had just offloaded a pile of rubbish.

The incident attracted attention from curious onlookers around the area.

Manning dumpsites is fast becoming a lucrative business in various middle and low income estates in Nairobi.

It is believed separate gangs make upto Sh 30,000 a day, by charging upto Sh 1,000 for any vehicle dumping litter at the venue.

This menial activity and the confrontation also highlights the state of desperation among the youth, most of whom are college graduates but lack blue or white collar jobs.
