City commuter trains resume operations

Commuter trains in Nairobi have resumed normal operations in all routes following a reduction in the rains.

Rift Valley Railways had stopped operations on most city routes after the weekend’s downpour damaged its railway lines.

The extent of the damage is not yet known, but RVR had cancelled the Ruiru, Kahawa West, Dandora and Embakasi routes.

Only the Syokimau commuter train remained operational.

RVR Communications Officer Mr Collins Gatere said all the issues concerning the cancellation of rail transport have now been resolved.

“We are calling on all train commuters to start using our rail transport since all issues  that affected railway transport  have been worked out,” he said.
