Lobby group holds anti-gay demo
Maendelo ya Wanaume group on Sunday held a demonstration at Uhuru Park to lobby for the passing of an anti-gay legislation in the country.
The activists called on Attorney General Githu Muigai to introduce a bill in Parliament that proposes stiff penalties to lesbians and gays.
They claimed that homosexuality is against the “African culture” and a “threat to boys and girls who can be easily lured to join lifestyle.”
The activists said they will be going to schools and universities to sensitize learners against homosexuality.
“Africans have a problem of copying the wrong values from other countries. Homosexuality is against our culture, values and beliefs. We are therefore calling on the government to protect our children by quickly legislating laws that prohibit meetings organised by homosexuals,” said, chairman of Maendeleo ya Wanaume Mr Ndiritu Njoka .
“There is no single phrase Bible, Quran or any other holy book where same sex marriages are allowed,” he added.
Already, five MPs have vowed to lobby Parliament to tighten laws deterring homosexuality. The five ar , Irungu Kang’ata, Julius Ndegwa, John Njoroge, Clement Wambugu and Stephen Kinyanjui.
