Uncertainty for Tujuane as M-Net shuts Maisha Magic
The local film industry is set to experience a big blow as M-Net is set to close the Maisha Magic Dstv channel at the end of next month.
The channel that broadcasts a huge per cent of Kenyan programs has been a great opportunity for local filmmakers to showcase their talent. The channel will terminate on 31 March 2015 at 00.59 East African time.
Announcing the move, CEO M-Net Sub Saharan Africa Patricia van Rooyen on Friday said the channel was unable to grow and achieve the ratings needed to sustain the business.
“We are grateful to the Maisha Magic team, which includes M-Net East Africa Regional Director Michael Ndetei and some of the most talented and creative people in the Kenyan media industry. M-Net will endeavor to make this closure as smooth a transition as possible for them,” said Ms Patricia.
AFFECTED PROGRAMMES
The company assured filmmakers that their work will be showcased in other M-Net channels to ensure continued support.
The company says all the programmes currently on Maisha Magic will be wound down “in consultation with all stakeholders who will be affected by the closure”.
“M-Net is in the process of engaging with all stakeholders in order to ensure that due process is followed,” says the station on its website.
Some of the programs that were airing in the channels include the dating show Tujuane, TV Series Kona, TV Drama Sumu la Penzi and Jane and Abel along with reality show Ajabu.
The popular Don’t Mess With Kansiime comedy show that aired one season on a local TV and is set to premiere on Maisha Magic next week is also among the affected programs.
