Music legend Oliver Mtukudzi’s guitar strums silenced in diabetes battle


Legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi is dead.

The musician died on Wednesday at Avenues Clinic in Harare aged 66.

Tuku, as he was fondly known, had been battling diabetes for the past one month.

The musician missed the ZBC Coca-Cola awards on Tuesday night. The mcee of the night explained that he was ailing and his manager too had failed to attend in order to spend some time with him.

Tuku was handed a honorary award on Tuesday, hours before his health deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Wednesday late afternoon.

The musician had penetrated the international music industry with his 66 albums, touring different countries throughout his career that spanned decades.

His contribution to bettering Zimbabwe saw him named the Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations Children’s Fund.
