Kenyan Ayugi all smiles despite Miss Universe heartbreak


Despite dazzling in a white evening gown and a dress with Kenya’s national colors, Gaylyne Ayugi never made it to the 2014 Miss Universe finalists.

The 20-year-old Zetech University student, who was among 88 contestants in the global beauty pageant, was well received by the audience in Doral-Miami at the FIU Arena.

Gaylyne, who resembles Lupita Nyong’o, was applauded as she made an entrance donned in her custom made national dress.

After the contest was over, Gaylene took to instagram to express her gratitude.

MAGICAL EXPERIENCE

“The journey is over. I am happy the far I have come because I got the chance to represent my country after an absence of 10 years. I has been a magical experience and I thank God.”

Her comments were met with congratulatory messages from her fans across the world, with Kenyans expressing pride at her achievement.

Africa had representatives from Kenya, South Africa, Angola, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt, Gabon, Tanzania and Ghana.

Miss Universe Nigeria Queen Celestine bagged the Miss Congeniality Universe title usually awarded o the friendliest person in the contest.

The Miss Universe 2014 crown went to Columbia’s Paulina Vega, while the first runner up was USA’s Nia Sanchez.

Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha was named second runner-up, Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen the third runner-up and Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell fourth runner-up.
