Elani speak out on domestic violence in new video

Kenyan music group, Elani, have embarked on a campaign to end domestic violence through their newly released video to the song Sirudi.

The song, featuring Jaguar, which was released a week ago, has so far amassed more than 150,000 views.

In the video, band member, Bryan Chewa, plays an abusive husband to fellow band member Wambui Ngugi.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Elani’s music video is a powerful reminder of the dynamics that make it so difficult for a woman to simply walk out of her abuser.

“Those we share our hearts with, those in whom we trust may sometimes turn to be oppressors and abusers from whom we must flee. With the increase in Gender Based Violence within the country it is time to say #EnoughIsEnough,” Elani wrote on a Facebook post.

They also urged anyone who has been a victim of violence or abuse, or know somebody who is, to contact the Gender Violence Recovery Centre.
