Kenya’s pioneer disc jockey, DJ Pinye, has been criticized by some Kenyan artistes on his new move to record an album with various artistes.

On Tuesday evening, Pinye sent a poster to various social media platforms, including artistes’ WhatsApp groups, urging them to record an album with him.

The poster says: “Kenyan talent is indisputable, but untapped. We must change that.” It goes on to say: “I am calling out on Kenyan artistes and producers to create tracks and work on an album with me.”

However, this has not been received by some Kenyan artistes, saying that he is just trying to be relevant.

A Kenyan gospel artiste, DK Kwenye Beat, went ahead to post a counterattack poster on his Instagram page, asking the DJ to play 70 per cent of Kenyan music first before working with Kenyan artistes on an album. Pinye is the producer of music program ‘The Beat’, which airs on NTV every weekday.
