One of Diamond Platnumz’s managers, Hamisi Shabaana Tale Tale aka Babu Tale, has been arrested for non-payment of a Tsh250 million (Sh11 million) debt to a Muslim clergyman in compensation.

According to reports in Tanzanian media, Babu Tale, who had been avoiding the authorities for some time now, was finally arrested on Tuesday and presented in court at 3pm.

However, the registrar of the court was not present and he was remanded until Wednesday morning with possibility of him staying in custody for much longer.

Babu Tale and his brother Iddi Tale were issued with warrant of arrests after failing to honor the payment compensation of Tsh250 million to one Sheikh Mbonde, a Muslim motivational speaker, as was ordered by Judge Agustine Shangwa in February 18, 2016.

This after the two were found guilty of cashing in from the religious leader works without his consent.

DEFAULTED PAYMENT

The judgment had been arrived at after three years of legal lawsuit, but even then Babu Tale ignored the court’s ruling.

In the case no 185 of 2013, Shiekh Mbonde accused Babu Tales’ Company Tip Top which, he co-owns with his brother Iddi, of using his recorded religious video clips for business purposes without his approval.

In his submission, the religious motivational speaker says he entered into an agreement with Tip Top Company to use his work for domestic use but Babu Tale and his company disobeyed the rules of engagement and went ahead to make some cash out it with the pretense of having a contract that allowed them to do so.

In its determination, the court found Tip Top Company guilty and awarded Sheikh Mbonde the hefty sum in compensation whose payment the accused defaulted.

The court also ruled that in the event Tip Top fails to pay, then its property will be auctioned to get the money. And if the company has no property then its directors, in this case Babu Tale and Iddi Tale, will be sentenced to jail as per Tanzanian laws.
