Blogger arrested for impersonating TV presenters on Facebook

A 21 year old Kenyan of Somali origin was arrested on Thursday for allegedly impersonating NTV’s Kobi Kihara and Victoria Rubadiri on Facebook.

Ashnaam Mohammed, who once appeared on The Trend showcasing his card magic skills, was tracked down by a programmer and handed over to investigators before charges are placed against him.

The young man who also runs and an entertainment blog acknowledged that the content advertised on the pseudo accounts is from his blog.

“The blog is mine and I know I have no rights to post its content on people’s pages but I did not create the pages nor share my content on them,” said Ashnaam.

The blogger who lives in Nairobi was taken in for further questioning by investigators.

MEDIA PERSONALITY

Cases of media personality’s names being used to create fake Facebook pages have increased lately with most pages being used to advertise pornographic content.

Kihara, who hosts NTV’s AM Live, said she had contacted a programmer to help track down the fake page’s administrator after her efforts to stop the account from being used maliciously failed.

During the arrest inbox conversation between Kihara and the fake page admin over the matter were displayed where the admin insisted that the content is their intellectual property and they can post it anywhere.

NTV News anchor Rubadiri has also in the past tried to stop the fake page admin and ended up being blocked by them.

In a past interview with Nairobi News she said that emails to the Facebook headquarters had also not bore fruits and she resolved to keep reminding her followers on her official page that the other page is fake.
