‘Child rape’ billboard angers Netizens for insensitive message

A billboard with a message advocating against child rape has angered the online community for its misleading and insensitive message.

The billboard in question bears a caricature of a man with a shocked expression on his face, covering his mouth with his hands, presumably in shame.

The picture is captioned: “Mbona wanaume wanapenda ku-rape watoto wadogo?” (Why do men like raping little children?)

The message has however not gone down well with Kenyans on social media, who are asking why the advertisers would brand all men as rapists.

REACTIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

“Wanume wengine could have helped. But as it is, it portrays all men as rapists which is very sad and unfortunate. Shame on those who put up the advert,” commented Samwel Born Maina, the user who posted the picture on Facebook.

His post attracted the attention of netizens who weighed in on the matter, terming the message on the billboard as deceptive.

Carol Achachi remarked: “I support… not all men are bad… there is a GOOD number out there.”

Cartwritte Stephen quipped, “My goodness. Where’s this one we go bring it down?”

Koech Whizzd Cheruiyot wrote, “Yes, the wording is wrong.”

Faith C Seroney commented, “That’s an awful advert. A very wrong way to address the issue.”

Dru Mandela Ndiemaski said, “That’s very wrong where is Mutua?”
