Errant Chief jailed for 20 years for defiling 14-year-old

A chief in Kisumu County has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for repeatedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Seme Sub County in 2015.

Mr Michael Odhiambo Oluoch, Chief of South West Seme Location had been charged on June 9, 2015 for defiling the girl, who is an orphan staying with her widowed grandmother.

Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphin Okundi found Mr Oluoch guilty in a case where four prosecution witnesses testified including the child, her grandmother, medical officer and the investigations officer.

The medical officer told the court that after examination, he found out that there was evidence of defilement.

Two defense witnesses who included the accused denied the accusations as mere claims.

“The prosecution presented a watertight case and I’m convinced there is substantial evidence linking him to defilement. The defendant is hereby sentenced to 20 years in prison,” said Mrs Okundi.

PUBLIC SHAME

Mr Oluoch was found to have sexually abused the then standard six pupil from 9am to 4pm at Kogundo village.

The minor was headed to church when the administrator lured her into his house, alleging that he wanted to send her to the shop.

The incident shook the entire Kombewa District with residents demanding that the chief be paraded before the public as a way of subjecting him to ‘public shame’.

After the judgement delivered at 4pm on Wednesday, the court precincts was treated to drama after some locals celebrated while at the same time some relatives of the chief wailed uncontrollably.

In the same court, Mr Meshack Odhiambo Omondi was sentenced to life for defiling a 10-year-old girl.

At the same time, Resident Magistrate Mr Barnabas Kiptoo sentenced Mr Nahashon Okisi to life for committing a similar crime.
