WANTED: Police hunt down charter flight operator linked to fake gold scam
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are hunting a man who runs a Charter Flight Business at the Wilson Airport and who has been linked to the fake gold trade.
The latest development comes just a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered the fast-tracking of investigations into the fake gold scam that has dragged in top politicians.
On Friday an audio purporting to be of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula was shared on social media where he dropped the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga to assure a Dubai gold investor that their detained consignment would be released.
The wanted man is a Kenyan national and he is believed to have been involved in the fake gold scam through his charter flight business based at Wilson Airport.
FAKE DEALS
Detectives from DCI raided his premises at Wilson Airport on Friday but were unable to find him.
Sources close to the investigations claim the search has now been narrowed to six suspected masterminds of the fake gold scandal that involves the Dubai Royal family.
The operation has also seen the arrest of 16 suspects including businessman Jared Otieno, who was detained over claims he swindled a man from Laos Sh300 million on pretence that he would supply him with gold.
The police say the operation on those behind several fake gold deals in the country is ongoing and more suspects are set to be arrested.
