Cecafa tournaments’ hosts and dates announced
The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa), on Saturday announced the host countries for three of its competitions set to take place in the next eight months.
According to Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, Rwanda has been handed the hosting rights for the Senior Challenge Cup which will be held in December.
This is a competition that brings together national teams from the member countries.
Tanzania will host the club version of the Championships in July, while Kampala is set to stage an U-17 Championships at a yet to be confirmed dates.
A task force meeting consisting among others, eight of the twelve Football Association (FA) Presidents in the region met at Hill Park Hotel in Nairobi and arrived at this resolutions.
STRUCTURE OF COMPETITION
The task force also resolved to re-brand the regional body and only enforce minor changes to the structure of competitions.
“Cecafa will assist the host nations in meeting the expenses of this competition. We had considered adopting a different model of competing where the tourney will be held on a home and away basis, but the sporting calender this year is tight.”
“We will also be unveiling a new marketing team within the next three months to attract sponsorship,” Musonye said.
The Senior Challenge Cup will be making a return after a year’s absence owing to a lack of funds.
Harambee Stars are the defending champions while Sudanese outfit El Merreikh are the regional club champions.
