Calls for justice during murdered lawyer’s requiem mass


Hundreds of mourners on Friday gathered at Consolata Shrine in Westlands, Nairobi for the requiem mass of slain lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.

Tears flowed among mourner’s who gathered to bid farewell to the three who were found brutally murdered two weeks ago and their mutilated bodies found in a river on July 1 in a river at Ol Donyo Sabuk.

The requiem mass was attended by among other’s the US ambassador to Kenya Robert F Godec and a representative of International Justice Mission representative (IJM) who eulogised the three saying:

“The whole International Justice Mission team is deeply grieved that these three men were murdered in the pursuit of justice. Willie Kimani was a very dedicated and driven man. He had a fierce passion for justice, especially for the underprivileged.”

According to the representative, the fight against police brutality was not unique to Kenya but has been seen across the world.

Friends and colleagues said that the late lawyer spent his entire career investigating and exposing errant police officers and brought some of them to justice before his brutal killing two weeks ago.

The three will be buried this coming weekend in their respective county’s.
