Kenya international defender David ‘Calabar’ Owino is reportedly overwhelmed and confused by a myriad of offers at his disposal.

The Gor Mahia defender, who has less than six months remaining on his current deal with the Kenyan Premier League champions, has in the past month received offers from teams in Kenya, Belgium, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, on top of another bid to prolong his services with his current club.

Nairobi News has been made to undestand that the flurry of phone calls that the Owino has been receiving from suitors has left the two-time Kenya defender of the year at the crossroads.

“Owino has been forced to switch off his phone at the moment and is currently at his native Nakuru. Its seems he doesn’t have a clue on how to handle the situation or even how to commence negotiations,” a source close to the player said.

TRIALS WITH SIMBA

It is believed Tanzanian club Simba SC  – with which the player underwent trials at the start of this month – is now keen to offer him close to Sh 500, 000 so as not to renew his contract with Gor Mahia, and join the club on a free transfer come June.

The player is also said to have held talks with Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier on Thursday morning, with the club said to be willing to pay him a monthly salary of Sh 170, 000 excluding match winning bonuses and training allowances.

In the meantime, two clubs in South Africa and Zambia have forwaded a proposal of upto USD 55,000 to the player n sign on fees alone.

The 26 year old has been one of the most consistent players on the local football scene for the past two seasons.
