It’s a busy holiday season for Wanyama even with family members in london

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama admits he would have loved to be back home in Kenya during the festive season.

But having flown his family members to London to “keep him company”, the holiday season still feels like being home for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

“My family has traveled from Kenya so I will spend time with them. It will be great to see everyone and to experience Christmas here in London,” Wanyama said.

“This is actually the first time that I will be having my family visiting me in England over Christmas. In recent years when I played for Southampton, I’ve been invited to a friend’s house and have obviously had matches to prepare for in the Premier League as usual over here, but it will be great time with my family this year.”

IDEAL CHRISTMAS

The former Celtic player also said: “The families get together and eat a lot of food – all different kinds of dishes really. They exchange their presents on the evening of December 24 and then on December 25 everyone has lunch and dinner together.”

Wanyama, who is reported to earn about Sh8m a week at Tottenham, also took time to recall some of his memorable moments during the previous festive season.

“The ideal Christmas back in the days would be to feast on chapati and beef or chicken, and some soda, have some new clothes on and also go to church,” the midfielder who was born and grew up in Muthurwa, said.

That was then. Right now, and has has been the norm in English football over the years, Wanyama, 25, will have to do with a working holiday over Christmas and the New Year.

Spurs have league matches lined up against Wanyama’s former club Southampton and Watford on December 28 and January 1 respectively.
