Two thugs killed in city centre botched robbery

Police shot dead two armed robbers on Thursday morning as they attempted to rob a shop in Jamia mall.

The two were killed near Total petrol station that is next to the mall.

Five other gang members escaped on foot.

One firearm loaded with five rounds of ammunition was recovered from the suspects.

Police had received a tip-off of the planned robbery and intercepted the gang just as they approached the mall.

The robbers carried identification cards.

Central police station OCPD Paul Wanjama arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

“There was a civilian who was injured during the exchange of fire but he was rushed to the hospital and he is in a fair condition,” he said.

Mr Wanjama said that lately there have been security threats to businesses along the street and police have been on high alert tracing the gangs.

He added that the five others who escaped will be hunted down by the police.
