Boinnet: Crackdown on oath takers to continue
Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet has said a crackdown on “rogue leaders” will continue despite criticism and protests.
His remarks followed the arrest of Opposition politicians over the protest swearing-in of Nasa leader Raila Odinga as the “people’s president”. The arrests have sparked uproar.
Speaking at Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri on Friday, the police boss put politicians on notice, saying no one will be spared in the enforcement of law and order in the country.
“We are serving people in a constitutional manner. Break the law and face the consequences,” said Mr Boinnet.
VIOLATING THE LAW
He was accompanied by his two deputies Mr Noor Gabow (Administration Police) and Mr Edward Mbugua (Kenya Police) among other senior officers.
Mr Boinnet further denied that police were violating the law and constitutional rights of the politicians who have so far been affected in the crackdown.
“We are marching ahead and there’s no going back. We are serving the people in accordance with the law,” he said.
The police chief had graced the first-ever National Police Service Open Day which was to showcase what the police recruits have learnt during the nine months of training ahead of a graduation parade next month.
