Bogus medics arrested

Fourteen unqualified medical practitioners were arrested and at least three medical facilities closed after the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMP&DB) embarked on a week-long inspection in all private health facilities in the County.

Led by the boards CEO Daniel Yumbya and officials from the County government’s health inspectorate team, the officials raided 28 health institutions in Umoja, Kayole, and Komarock areas inspecting the health provision facilities’ staff and services offered.

“We are putting all the quacks in Nairobi on notice, we will not rest until all Nairobi residents get quality healthcare,” said Yumbya.

Despite several institutions getting wind of the operation and shutting down others were caught off-guard like the first raid on Arrow Kenya where despite having patients there was no single nurse present.

The institution, which has been operating for the past six years with no license, had an unqualified community health provider in official nurse uniform attending to the patients.

The proprietor of the institution only identified as Simiyu was arrested.

Drama ensued after the clinician in charge of Pema Medical Centre tried to run away and point to an innocent father of her patient as the doctor in charge.

It was after several pleas from Samwel Amwai explaining on how he has been bringing his daughter for treatment that the officers realised the lady had tricked them. However she was later apprehended.
