Boda boda riders torch car that killed colleague in collision – PHOTOS


A boda boda rider died on Sunday after colliding with a car at Gatitu area along the Nyeri-Karatina road.

Six occupants in the car narrowly escaped the wrath of boda boda operators who wanted to burn them inside the car, accusing them of killing one of their own.

The occupants, two adults and four children, were rescued by residents in the area as the riders went on to torch the car.

LOST CONTROL

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to the Nation, the boda boda rider is said to have been speeding towards Gatitu when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided head-on with the car.

The rider died on the spot as his colleagues from Gatitu Centre rushed to the scene.

A witness claimed the driver of the vehicle attempted to approach the rider who was lying on the road but was confronted by the irate riders.

RESCUED

“He tried to help the man who was still alive at the time but the riders started attacking him. They wanted to burn him and the passengers in the car but they were rescued by locals,” said the witness.

They eventually set the car ablaze as the occupants scampered for safety. The car was burned into a shell.

The accident caused a traffic snarl up along the busy highway as vehicles were forced to divert to a different route.

The body of the boda boda rider was taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary by police.
