Besigye writes passionate note to his supporters from prison cell

Uganda’s main opposition leader Kiiza Besigye has written a passionate letter to his supporters from his prison cell.

Besigye was arrested on May 11 and was transferred to a number of police stations across country before being charged with treason before a Kampala court.

He is currently at Luzira Prison.

The charges relate to a ceremony he held in Kampala in which he swore himself in as the President of the Republic of Uganda.

This was days after the electoral commission had declared the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni as the re-elected President.

His supporters have been apprehensive on the consition of the Forum for Democratic Change in Luzira prison. He has however assured his supporters that “all is well”.

In the handwritten note posted on his political party’s official Facebook page, Besigye said; “To all my friends and activists, this is to let you know that I am well by the grace of God. I convey salutations to all over you. I wish you a happy Martyrs day. We shall overcome. Remain strong. Signed. Kiiza Besigye.
