Ban on night travel to stay, Judge

By NAIROBI NEWS January 14th, 2014 1 min read

A High Court Judge on Tuesday threw away a case by four transport companies seeking to stop the night travel ban.

Justice Isaac Lenaola said the four transport companies failed submit sufficient evidence to justify lifting the ban.

The four companies, Starlingrad Limited, Sabrin Bus Services, Kukena Sacco Limited and Nairobi Western Sacco Limited, moved to court to quash the ban imposed by the National Transport and Safety Authority chairman.

The ban, imposed in December, was intended to reign on road accidents caused by long distance  public service vehicles operating at night.

3,130 lives were lost last year nationally in road accidents.

The transport companies had argued that the directive was issued irregularly and had caused them to suffer financial loss.
