Babu Owino arrested after storming police station to demand city businessman’s release


University of Nairobi student leader, Babu Owino, has been arrested for causing disturbance at the Kilimani Police Station while seeking the release of business man Chris Obure.

According to OCPD Kilimani Police Station, Mr Peter Kattam, Owino in the company of a male colleague matched to the police station on Thursday morning and started hurling abusive words at police officers on duty.

“He came to Kilimani Police Station at 8am seeking the release of Mr Chris Obure. But he got abusive in his demands and that is when we arrested him for disorderly conduct,” says Mr Kattam.

The Sonu chairman is currently being held at the Kilimani Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.

ARRAIGNED IN COURT

At the same time, city businessman Chris Obure was on Thursday arraigned in court for assaulting and causing bodily harm to Ben Alila Onyango, 30 last weekend.

Mr Obure is accused of threatening revelers with a gun outside B Club in Kilimani on the night of December 31, 2016.

Obure appeared in court Thursday a day after his arrest and was released on a Sh 20,000 cash bail. His case will be heard on March 9, 2017.

THREAT TO SHOOT

A report filed at the Kilimani Police Station said the scuffle ensued after Mr Obure was called to the parking yard, where he had double-parked his Range Rover.

However, he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot the customers who wanted to drive out of the yard.

The witnesses recorded statements with Kilimani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Phyllis Kanina.
