Azam’s new striker, Wanga to miss Cecafa tourney
Kenyan international striker Allan Wanga will not feature at this year’s edition of the Cecafa Club Championships that are ongoing in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Nairobi News can exclusively reveal.
Wanga arrived in the Tanzanian capital on Thursday to conclude a move to moneybags Azam FC, but hasn’t been registered for the two-week competition that kicked off on Saturday.
“We have agreed on everything and at the moment are closing in on formally securing his services. There is the paper work part to be completed after which he will be our player. For now, we haven’t even registered him for the Cecafa tournament,” a senior Azam official told Nairobi news.
Wanga’s absence could come us a major blow to the club following given his experience and success regional tournaments.
The Harambee Stars forward scored two goals in the Kenyan national team’s 2-0 win in the final of the 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup against Sudan in Nairobi.
Last year Wanga scored El Merreikh’s match winner against Rwanda’s APR in Kigali in the final of the Cecafa Club Championship, an encounter which the Sudanese giants won 1-0.
