Arsenal keeper fined Sh3m for smoking in the showers

Arsenal custodian Wojciech Szczesny has been fined Sh 3 million by the club after he was caught smoking a cigarette in the dressing room showers.

The player’s actions has reportedly infuriated club manager Arsene Wenger according to reports in the British media, that the Frenchman is on the verge of dumping him on the fringes of the first team for an extended spell.

The Polish shot stopper was caught with a cigarette butt in the mouth moments after conceding two sloppy goals during his team’s 2-0 loss to Southampton last month.

Other reports suggest that the club could even consider selling the player, following these actions, alongside his shaky performances on the pitch this season.

GOALKEEPING TARGETS

Smoking and consumption of alcohol is considered a taboo by all professional sports entities in the world.

Arsenal scouts have been instructed to identify goalkeeping targets ahead of the summer transfer window, a clear sign that Wenger has run out of patience with the Poland international.

It now looks certain that a new shot-stopper — in addition to Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin — will be a summer priority for Wenger.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech would certainly be on Wenger’s radar, so too would Hugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur. Whether Chelsea or Spurs would entertain selling to their London rivals is another matter.
