Arrival of Otieno, Shikanda at Talanta delights Nam

FC Talanta coach Micheal Nam says the appointments of Musa Otieno and Ibrahim Shikanda to the team’s backroom staff is geared towards propelling the side towards a league title.

Former internationals Otieno and Shikanda were handed season long contracts by the Government sponsored club last month, in what is believed will improve the performance of the side that finished fourth in the second tier competition last season.

“The two are already on board, I am appreciating their input. Very soon we will feel their input,” Nam told Nairobi News.

Besides featuring for the national football team during their playing days, both Otieno and Shikanda have garnered valuable experience in coaching outside Kenya at Sanlam Santos (South Africa) and Azam (Tanzania) respectively.

Otieno also doubles up as the national football team assistant coach.

THREE-MONTH STINT

Talanta FC is currently placed 8th on the FKF Premier League standings with eight points from five outings, five adrift of table toppers Zoo Kericho FC.

Nam was speaking at a function where the second tier side unveiled a partnership with Swedish club IF Gottne.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts Hassan Wario, Commissioner of Sports Gordon Oluoch and Gottne Chairman Mats Falck attended the function.

“Kenyan players lack the scientific part of training and I hope you will help our local coaches improve on this aspect. I wish to see Talanta FC win the local league title and Gottne claim the European Cup,” Wario said.

Two of Talanta’s players Micheal Wandera and Aziz Okaka have already spent a three-month in Europe with the Swedish side as part of the partnership.
